the whole Locus Mag Index again anyway searching for books that are not
listed under fantasy (e.g. fearie or fairy tale, sword & sorcery...
that kind of stuff).

Mag Index to Science Fiction, which is the (almost) complete list
of all Fantasy (and SF) books ever written, and which I have come across
last winter. I have also subscribed to the Locus
Magazine, to keep me up-to-date.

The new design is finally here! I know there are still some small
glitches here and there... If you like it or if there is anything you
really find annoying or whatever, please inform
me. I know the graphics take some time to download, but I hope I cut
down the database querying time a bit.

I have finally finished completing my list according to a wonderful
site, Biblioholica,
which had many more entries than mine and which I have come across at
the end of November 2000. The database now counts 5550 books by
915 authors.

Mat ° has added some new features
to the database, such as checkboxes for out of print, harcover and omnibus
books (which don't show on the site... yet), and the "by letter"
select lists (on the database interface), which, since the author list
is growing bigger and bigger and since I'm on a Mac, saves me now a lot
of precious time!

I have started a new design for the site but it'll wait a long time
before going online as it doesn't look the same on different computers
(Mac and PC) and different browsers (Netscape and IE). I don't want to
give it up entirely, because I have worked a lot on it and am rather pleased
with the result... I'll work on it again later.

28th August 2000:
The site is ready, I have registered the domain name crooty.com. The
database counts more than 4100 books by 469 authors. Mat °
and I are going on holiday for a couple of weeks.
22nd August 2000:
I have applied to Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com Associates programme. Mat
° has added the necessary fields in
the database so that I can add the uk and us ASIN/ISBN for each book,
and I'm starting to go through the whole list book by book.
5th August 2000:
I have started designing the site.

I've started adding new authors and books I found on two great sites,
Books'n'Bytes
and SciFan.
3rd July 2000:
My boy-friend Mat ° has shown me
some php and has prepared a database and interface, and I have started
copying my old list into the database. For the time being, the page is
on Mat °'s company's web site.
29th June 2000:
I have rewritten my list in html format. It has 806 books by 68 authors.
(This list never went online until 21st September 2001 as an archive).
22nd May 2000:
The original list has slowly grown to 46 authors, which I have gathered
here and there on the net.
August 1999:
My very first list was as simple Word document which counted 10 authors
and 147 books, along with comments on each author, which I had found on
Ben's
World of Fantasy Page.
Summer 1999:
I started this list first for myself: as I had read some fantasy books
(basically J. R. R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, Hobbit and Silmarillion,
Terry Brooks's Shannara series, David Eddings's Belgariad, Malloreon,
Elenium and Tamuli, and Richard Adams's Watership Down) and liked the
genre, I wanted to make a short list of new authors I could read next,
along with the books I had already read.
Future work (that I plan to do when I find some time and, above all,
the courage):
Adding the out of print, hardcover and omnibus info for
the first 4500 or so books I submitted before Mat °
added these features to the database.
Updating the hardcovers that have come out in paperback.
